Atanu Das achieves success at the Asian Archery Championships

On Tuesday, Indian archer Atanu Das claimed a bronze medal in the men's individual recurve category at the Asian Championships.

Due to the suspension of India's national federation, Das competed as a neutral participant under the World Archery flag. He secured his bronze by edging out Korea's Jin Hayek Oh 6-5 in a dramatic shoot-off. This wasn't his only win, as he had already earned a bronze in the mixed recurve team event alongside Deepika Kumari the previous day.

Abhishek Verma and Jyothi Surekha Vennam are moving on to Wednesday's final, where they will take on the duo from Taipei.

The Indian women's recurve squad, featuring Deepika Kumari, Ankita Bhakat, and Laishram Bombayla Devi, secured a bronze medal with a convincing 5-1 win over Japan. This came after they were knocked out of the semifinals by the powerhouse Korean team with a 6-2 score.

Indian compound archers have also made their mark, qualifying for the final rounds taking place on Wednesday. This follows the momentum from Monday, when Atanu Das and Deepika Kumari grabbed bronze in the mixed recurve competition.

The women's compound team, consisting of Priya Gurjar, Muskan Kirar, and Jyothi Surekha Vennam, followed the lead of the men's team by defeating Iran 227-221 to advance to the final.

By defeating South Korea's Jin Hayek Oh 6-5, Das managed to secure the medal. The Indian contingent is currently forced to compete as neutral athletes because the Indian federation was suspended following the June election of two presidents for the Archery Association of India.
