Saina Nehwal has exited the Denmark Open following a first-round loss.

Kidambi Srikanth's run at the Denmark Open ended abruptly in the first round, where he lost 14-21, 18-21 to Anders Antonsen of Denmark. Saina Nehwal had a similarly difficult outing earlier in the day, losing in straight sets to Sayaka Takahashi of Japan. The women's singles contest lasted 37 minutes, with Saina falling 15-21, 21-23. It was a heartbreaking second set for Saina, who surrendered a 20-16 lead to lose 21-23. This loss continues a frustrating streak for the World No. 8, who was also knocked out in the first round of the China and Korea Opens earlier this year.

In the men's singles category, Japan's Tsuneyama cruised into the second round with a commanding 21-11, 21-11 win over Sameer in under half an hour. India also found success in the mixed doubles, as Pranaav and N Sikki Reddy advanced after beating the German pair of Marvin Seidel and Linda Efler 21-16, 21-11.

Satwiksairaj and Ashwini did not play their first-round mixed doubles match, granting a walkover to the second-seeded Chinese team of Wang Yi Lyu and Huang Dong Ping. In other news, world champion PV Sindhu and B Sai Praneeth got off to a strong start, while Kashyap and Sourabh Verma were eliminated early after losing their opening matches.

PV Sindhu secured a convincing straight-game victory against Gregoria Mariska Tunjung of Indonesia in the women's singles.
