India desperately needed a flying start, but Dhawan couldn't quite provide the momentum required. He managed 28 runs off 32 balls, struggling to find his rhythm. Jason Behrendorff proved to be a tough challenge for him, utilizing a clinical approach that kept Dhawan from asserting his dominance early on.
Rohit Sharma – Rating: 5/10, Verdict: Average. Following a massive century in Sydney, Rohit struggled to replicate that form in Adelaide. While he showed flashes of timing and looked set for a substantial score, his innings ended prematurely when he attempted a risky pull shot against Marcus Stoinis and was caught for 43.

Virat Kohli – Rating: 9/10, Verdict: Excellent. When you think of a successful run chase in ODIs, Virat Kohli's name is the first that comes to mind. After a tough outing in Sydney, the captain returned to his best, dominating the game until his dismissal in the 39th over. He took complete control of the tempo from the start, making the chase look effortless and ensuring India remained in the driver's seat throughout.

Ambati Rayudu – Rating: 3/10, Verdict: Poor. Despite having the confidence of captain Virat Kohli for the number four spot, Rayudu struggled to deliver. While his right-handed style is theoretically a good fit for overseas conditions, he failed to make an impact in Adelaide. He was overlooked for a period but given a chance; however, he needs to start putting numbers on the board if he wants to secure his future in the squad.

With 118 runs needed off the final 118 balls, Dhoni stepped in with a masterclass in finishing. He played with characteristic elegance, rotating the strike with quick singles and doubles before closing the game with a signature six. It was a classic 'MSD' run-chase innings that left the captain beaming. Beyond his batting, his sharp glovework and presence behind the stumps provided a huge psychological boost to the Indian side.
Dinesh Karthik – Rating: 7/10, Verdict: Good
Karthik was called upon to steady the ship after Kohli's departure. Although he struggled initially to adapt to the challenging Australian conditions, he managed to contribute effectively to the chase.
The right-hander scored 25 runs off 14 balls, providing some necessary breathing room and maintaining a steady scoring rate that kept the pressure off the rest of the team.
Ravindra Jadeja – Rating: 6/10, Verdict: Good
Jadeja contributed significantly with the ball, taking 1 wicket and being involved in two run-outs while conceding only 10 runs in his spell. Although he didn't get much time with the bat, his all-round utility provides the team with crucial balance and flexibility.
Bhuvaneshwar Kumar – Rating: 8/10, Verdict: Excellent
Despite some skepticism about his effectiveness in Adelaide, Bhuvaneshwar silenced the critics with a brilliant spell of swing bowling. He struck early by removing Aaron Finch and continued to tear through the lineup, finishing with impressive figures of 4 wickets for 45 runs in his 10 overs.
Kuldeep Yadav – Rating: 3/10,
Following a tough stretch in Sydney, the young bowler struggled to find his footing. The Australian batters, particularly Shaun Marsh, took advantage of his lack of consistency, costing him 66 runs in 10 overs. He will need a much stronger performance in Melbourne to bounce back.
Mohammed Shami – Rating: 7/10, Verdict: Good
Shami had a productive outing. Having proven his worth in Tests, he is now translating that success into the ODI format. He was lethal with the new ball, picking up early wickets, and used his yorkers effectively with the older ball to stifle the aggressive batters. He is definitely a key piece of the puzzle for India's World Cup preparations.
Mohammed Siraj – Rating: 1/10. Siraj had a nightmare of a spell in Adelaide, conceding a massive amount of runs. He finished with figures of 0/76 in 10 overs, one of the most expensive outings for an Indian bowler in a single match. His performance was reminiscent of the struggles faced by bowlers in the 1975 series against England.
