The win was crucial as it boosted SRH to second in the points table. Even though they lost Travis Head on the first ball while pursuing a target of 215, a dominant 72-run partnership between Abhishek Sharma (66 off a 235 strike rate with 5 fours and 6 sixes) and Rahul Tripathi (33 off 18) turned the tide of the match.
A scintillating knock from Abhishek Sharma and Heinrich Klaasen’s fine hitting helped Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) defeat Punjab Kings (PBKS) by four wickets in their final league stage match of IPL 2024 on Sunday. With this win, SRH moved up to the second spot in the points table. Chasing 215, SRH lost their best batter Travis Head on the first ball of the innings but Abhishek and Rahul Tripathi stitched an excellent 72-run partnership to completely change the momentum of the game. Abhishek smacked 66 runs with a strike rate of 235, blasting 5 fours and 6sixes while Tripathi scored 33 off 18 balls.

The SRH lineup maintained a relentless pace throughout the chase, keeping the PBKS bowling attack under constant pressure. Heinrich Klaasen added 42 runs before his dismissal, and Nitish Kumar Reddy provided essential stability with 37 runs off 25 balls. On the bowling side for Punjab, both Harshal Patel and Arshdeep Singh managed to take two wickets apiece.

Punjab Kings initially looked dominant as Prabhsimran Singh and Atharva Taide put on a strong 97-run opening partnership. T Natarajan eventually broke the stand by getting the dangerous Taide out for 46, while Prabhsimran exited after a superb 71-run effort. The momentum continued with Rilee Rossouw's aggressive 49 off 24 balls, and Jitesh Sharma capped off the innings with an unbeaten 32, pushing PBKS to an impressive 214/5. Natarajan was the pick of the bowlers for SRH, finishing with two wickets.

On Tuesday, May 21, SRH will face off against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in Qualifier 1 at Ahmedabad's Narendra Modi Stadium. There is a strong belief among supporters that SRH's overwhelming batting power will be enough to overcome KKR and secure a place in the finals.
