Ireland's Paul Stirling played a brilliant knock of 130 from 141 balls, and captain William Porterfield broke a year-long drought by scoring a fifty. Despite their individual brilliance, their hard work was overshadowed by a clinical chase from the Bangladeshi side.
Tamim Iqbal set a fast pace for the chase, scoring his second fifty in three games. Together with Liton, he built a massive 117-run opening stand, putting the Irish bowlers under immense pressure with several boundaries. Tamim was lucky to survive a dropped catch by Gary Wilson when he was on 22, eventually adding 35 more runs to his score.
Liton Das played a crucial supporting role to Tamim, showing great strength in the square regions to keep the scoreboard moving. Once the opening pair was dismissed, Shakib and Mushfiqur stabilized the innings with a 64-run partnership over 10 overs. During this stand, Mushfiqur joined an elite group of wicketkeepers—including Adam Gilchrist, Andy Flower, Kumar Sangakkara, and MS Dhoni—by crossing the 5,000 ODI run mark. The partnership finally ended when Wilson managed a spectacular diving catch off a leg-side flick from Mushfiqur.
