The squad has already arrived in the Caribbean, ahead of the first match on Wednesday, July 12, in Dominica. Team India is all set to start afresh in the new World Test Championship (WTC) cycle when it takes on the West Indies in the two-match Test series. The first Test is scheduled to start from July 12, Wednesday in Dominica and the Indian team has already landed in the Caribbean islands. Rohit Sharma-led side will look to win the series 2-0 and dedicate the victory to the Indian fans as they experienced a humiliating defeat in the WTC final against Australia.
ICC's number one Test bowler, Ravichandran Ashwin, shared insights with fans regarding India's tour preparations. During the conversation, he explained the logic behind landing in Barbados first. The off-spinner also revealed that his commitment to the national team required him to cut his TNPL stint short, departing after four games despite originally planning to play more.
The team is already on the ground in the West Indies, giving them a ten-day buffer to recover from travel fatigue before starting full-scale practice. Ashwin highlighted coach Rahul Dravid's philosophy, emphasizing that the process of preparation is everything; if they focus on the work put in beforehand, the outcomes will take care of themselves. This is why the senior all-rounder noted that they arrived well in advance.
Ashwin concluded by explaining that Barbados was chosen as the initial stop because it hosts their preparation camp and a two-day warm-up match before they travel to Dominica for the first Test. Additionally, there is anticipation around the squad as either Ruturaj Gaikwad or Yashasvi Jaiswal is expected to make their Test debut.
