Australia's campaign hits a snag as they lose Mitchell Marsh's contributions at a critical juncture of the tournament.

Australian all-rounder Mitchell Marsh has left the World Cup to attend to personal matters at home. Having departed for Perth on Wednesday, his availability remains uncertain, with Cricket Australia confirming they cannot yet guarantee when or if he will rejoin the squad. This creates a challenging situation for the team, especially with Glenn Maxwell also ruled out of the November 4th game against England in Ahmedabad.
Mitchell Marsh, an Australian all-rounder, has returned home during the World Cup for personal reasons. Marsh, who flew to Perth on Wednesday, is expected to be unavailable indefinitely, with Cricket Australia stating that there has been no assurance of his return. Mitchell Marsh has returned home from the ICC Men’s World Cup for personal reasons. A timeline on his return to the squad is yet to be confirmed, said Cricket Australia on Thursday. This is a big setback for Australia, who will already be without Glenn Maxwell for their tomorrow’s (November 4) match against England in Ahmedabad.

Maxwell's injury occurred after a fall from a golf cart, leaving him with several bruises and a concussion. Consequently, he will be monitored closely and will miss the Saturday fixture against England, though it is expected he will return for the final stages of the competition.

According to coach Andrew McDonald, the injury happened when a group of players were being transported by carts; Glenn unfortunately lost his footing and fell while returning to the team bus. McDonald clarified that it was a straightforward accident and that Maxwell will now undergo standard concussion protocols. He emphasized Maxwell's importance to the side and expressed hope that the injury would only sideline him for one match.

Having moved to the No. 3 spot to accommodate Travis Head's return to the opening pair, Marsh is definitely out for the England game. A decision on whether he can feature in the upcoming matches against Afghanistan in Mumbai on November 7 or Bangladesh in Pune on November 11 will be made as the situation evolves.

Losing both Maxwell and Marsh simultaneously creates a tactical gap in the lineup, as both players provide essential balance. While Marcus Stoinis and Cameron Green are available, neither has been in peak form lately. Nevertheless, Australia may have no other option but to bring both players back into the starting XI for the England match.

Despite these setbacks, Australia's overall form remains strong. After a rocky start with losses to South Africa and India, they have surged back with four wins in a row. They only need two more victories from their final three games to secure a smooth path to the semi-finals. Even without their star all-rounders, they are still tipped to win against a struggling England, a weak Bangladesh, and a determined Afghanistan side.
