Virat Kohli nominated for ICC Player of the Month award

Virat Kohli has been named as a nominee for the ICC ‘Player of the Month’ for October. This first-time nomination comes as a result of his dominant form in the ongoing T20 World Cup. The star batter helped drive India to crucial wins against Pakistan, Bangladesh, and the Netherlands by recording three half-centuries. He shares the nomination with South Africa's David Miller and Sikandar Raza of Zimbabwe.

Throughout October, Kohli accumulated 205 runs, signaling a return to his peak form. While his unbeaten 62 against the Netherlands showed how comfortable he looked at the crease, the real standout moment happened in Melbourne. In front of a packed stadium, Kohli delivered a legendary performance—an unbeaten 82 off 53 balls—steering India to a historic win over Pakistan.

Continuing his streak on Wednesday, Kohli dominated the game against Bangladesh to become the all-time leading run-scorer in T20 World Cup history, overtaking the mark set by Sri Lanka's Mahela Jayawardene (1016 runs in 31 games). In 25 matches, Kohli has maintained a staggering average of over 83—a figure far beyond any other player in the top 10, where no one else even averages 50. Additionally, he has surpassed Sachin Tendulkar's record for the most runs scored by an Indian player on Australian soil.

On the women's side, Deepti Sharma and Jemimah Rodrigues were nominated for their key contributions to India's Asia Cup victory. Rodrigues finished the competition as the top run-getter, while Sharma tied for the most wickets taken.
