The BCCI has officially named the 15-member Indian squad for the 2026 ICC T20 World Cup.

Three months ago, Rohit Sharma led the Indian men's team to a thrilling seven-run victory against South Africa, securing the 2024 ICC T20 World Cup and ending a long 13-year wait for such a title. Now, the focus shifts to the women's team, who are hoping to replicate that success. The Indian women will fight for the championship in Dubai and Sharjah, UAE, between October 3 and 20.
The Indian men’s team, captained by Rohit Sharma, defeated South Africa by seven runs to win the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, ending their 13-year wait for an ICC Cricket World Cup title. This victory occurred over three months ago. India will now be hoping that the women’s cricket team makes history as well. Women in Blue will have a chance to win the illusive trophy at the ICC T20 World Cup, which will take place in Dubai and Sharjah, United Arab Emirates (UAE), from October 3–20.

This past Tuesday, the BCCI announced the 15 players chosen for the upcoming ICC tournament. The team will be headed by senior player Harmanpreet, with Smriti Mandhana supporting her as vice-captain. The selection committee focused on stability, deciding not to include any newcomers in the squad.

Since they haven't gone up against the world's strongest teams in the last six months, India might face a steep learning curve during the tournament. However, because the opposition is predictable, the team can rely on their existing knowledge of these rivals. The squad's hope is that their rigorous training in fielding and bowling will pay dividends during the World Cup.

All-rounder Shreyanka Patil and wicket-keeper Yastika Bhatia have been included in the squad, provided they are fit. Meanwhile, Uma Chetry, Tanuja Kanwer, and Saima Thakor will travel as reserves. To get into form, India is scheduled to play two warm-up games against South Africa and the West Indies.

India's roster: Harmanpreet Kaur (C), Smriti Mandhana (VC), Yastika Bhatia* (WK), Shafali Verma, Deepti Sharma, Jemimah Rodrigues, Richa Ghosh (WK), Pooja Vastrakar, Arundhati Reddy, Renuka Singh, D Hemalatha, Asha Sobhana, Radha Yadav, Shreyanka Patil*, Sajeevan Sajana
