Chahal has dismissed Maxwell in all three matches played so far. This Australian batsman has been stumped out in two consecutive matches.
Speaking to the press before the fourth ODI, Chahal explained his game plan: “My approach with Maxwell is to avoid bowling directly at the stumps, as that can backfire. Instead, I keep the ball wider and vary my pace. I realize that if I bowl a few empty deliveries, he'll likely step out to hit a big shot, so maintaining a precise line and length is key to unsettling him.” He added that David Warner remains a significant threat, regardless of his running ability.
Regarding Warner, Chahal remarked, “Warner is Australia's key man; if he settles in at the crease, he can play a massive innings. While Finch managed a century in Indore, Warner is still the most dangerous threat. His IPL experience has given him an aggressive mindset. If he survives for 40 or 50 balls, he can easily rack up 70 to 80 runs. Our main goal is to dismiss him early to put the middle order under pressure.”
Discussing the spin battle against Australia, Chahal highlighted how India's spinners have been the deciding factor, claiming 13 wickets. “Our spin attack has outperformed theirs, taking 13 wickets by better utilizing the available conditions, which has given us a huge advantage,” he noted. He also pointed out that Adam Zampa is Australia's only wrist spinner and hasn't been a consistent presence in their lineup.
