India closed the opening day of the first Test in Chittagong at 278/6 after 90 overs. Despite an early struggle where the top order crumbled, the team recovered strongly through grit and determination from Cheteshwar Pujara and Shreyas Iyer, both of whom scored half-centuries. Pujara departed on 90, narrowly missing a century, while Iyer remained not out on 82. Taijul Islam led the Bangladeshi attack, finishing with figures of 3/84.
India posted 278/6 in 90 overs against Bangladesh on the opening day of the ongoing first Test match in Chittagong. Cheteshwar Pujara and Shreyas Iyer batted brilliantly and hit gritty half-centuries to put their side in a strong position after an early top-order collapse. Pujara (90) missed out on a century but Iyer remained unbeaten on 82. For Bangladesh, Taijul Islam was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 3/84.

Having won the toss and elected to bat, India's opening pair of KL Rahul and Shubman Gill started steadily. However, the left-arm spin of Taijul Islam proved too much for Gill, who was out for 20. The visitors' troubles grew when Khaled Ahmed dismissed skipper KL Rahul for 22. The slide continued as Islam trapped Virat Kohli for a meager 1 run with a brilliant ball, sending the star batsman back to the pavilion in disappointment.

To halt the collapse, Rishabh Pant played a dynamic, counter-attacking knock of 46 from 45 deliveries before Mehidy Hasan managed to bowl him. Following that, the game shifted in India's favor as Pujara and Iyer anchored the innings with a dominant 149-run stand for the fifth wicket. The partnership finally ended when Islam struck again to dismiss Pujara.

Shreyas Iyer enjoyed a fair bit of luck on the first day, surviving two dropped catches and a delivery from Ebadot Hossain that hit the stumps without dislodging the bails. Meanwhile, Axar Patel was dismissed for 13 on the very last ball of the day. Iyer now enters Day 2 with a century well within his reach.
