According to the BCCI, two Indian players have tested positive for COVID-19. Furthermore, bowling coach Bharath Arun, wicket-keeper Wriddhiman Saha, and Abhimanyu Easwaran have been isolated because they were in close contact with Garani. Rajiv Shukla, the BCCI Vice-President, assured that no other squad members are affected.
The first case emerged on July 8 with Rishabh Pant, and later, on July 14, training assistant Dayanand Garani tested positive via an RT-PCR test in London. Consequently, the other three members will isolate for 10 days. Because the team had been confined to a bio-bubble for almost a year, the BCCI granted everyone a three-week holiday to reunite with their families.
Pant, who was previously spotted in a large crowd at Wembley Stadium for the EURO-2020 tournament, is now almost finished with his self-quarantine. The BCCI confirmed that he is under medical supervision and will return to the squad as soon as he clears his RT-PCR test.
A BCCI official stated that the players and staff members mentioned will be unable to travel or participate in the practice match at Emirates Riverside starting July 20.
The BCCI confirmed that the entire Indian team received their second vaccine dose earlier this month. Nevertheless, these recent infections have created a tense atmosphere ahead of the five-match series against England, which kicks off on August 4.
