Thanks to a brilliant team effort, MS Dhoni's squad guided Chennai Super Kings to a 27-run win over the Delhi Capitals at their home ground. With 15 points now on the board, CSK has a much stronger grip on a top-four finish, while DC sees their chances of making the playoffs slip away. Chasing 168, DC's batsmen were outclassed and lacked momentum throughout the innings, eventually being held to 140/8 by a clinical CSK bowling attack featuring a three-wicket haul from Pathirana and two from Chahar.
In a surprising turn of events, the usual opening reliability of Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway was missing. Axar Patel dealt a blow early on, trapping Conway LBW for 10 and removing Gaikwad for 24 shortly after, leaving the home side reeling. Moeen Ali added little to the score before falling for 7, and Ajinkya Rahane (21) was sent back to the pavilion following a spectacular catch by Lalit Yadav.
Shivam Dube provided a quick 25, while Ambati Rayudu contributed 23 and Ravindra Jadeja added a vital 21 runs. To top it off, the legendary MS Dhoni gave the local fans something to cheer about, smashing two massive sixes and a boundary in the second-to-last over to lift the team's total to 167/8.
When it was DC's turn to bat, Deepak Chahar struck early, dismissing captain David Warner for a duck and removing Phil Salt (17) in back-to-back overs. A communication error between Mitchell Marsh and Manish Pandey led to another quick wicket. Although Pandey (27) and Rilee Rossouw (35) tried to stabilize the innings, their slow scoring caused the required run rate to climb too high. DC never regained control and ultimately succumbed to the pressure.
