Chennai Super Kings earned their first win of the season by beating Royal Challengers Bangalore by 23 runs. RCB fought hard to reach 193/9 in their 20 overs, but the target of 217 proved too steep. Maheesh Theekshana was the standout performer for CSK, claiming 4 wickets for 33 runs, supported by skipper Ravindra Jadeja, who took three.
RCB won the toss and elected to bowl, putting CSK under early pressure with a score of 36/2 within the first 7 overs. Josh Hazlewood claimed the key wicket of Ruturaj Gaikwad (17) via LBW, and a mix-up led to Moeen Ali's early exit for 3. To steady the ship, Robin Uthappa and Shivam Dube played a patient, anchoring role.
The momentum shifted when Uthappa and Dube began attacking, hitting several sixes to build a huge 165-run stand for the third wicket. Uthappa eventually fell to Wanindu Hasaranga for 88, while Dube stayed until the end, finishing unbeaten on 95 to help CSK reach 216/4.
Facing a daunting total, RCB's top order collapsed as Faf du Plessis (8) and Virat Kohli (1) fell early. Glenn Maxwell tried to fight back but was dismissed for 26 by Jadeja. A 60-run partnership between Shahbaz Ahmed and Suyash Prabhudessai provided a brief glimmer of hope.
However, the CSK bowlers managed to break the partnerships at exactly the right moments. Although Dinesh Karthik contributed a quick 34, and a few RCB players showed flashes of quality, it wasn't enough to bridge the gap. Ultimately, CSK walked away with a decisive victory.
