A former Indian cricketer believes Hardik Pandya will remain at the helm of Team India for the 2026 T20 World Cup.

The BCCI's selection committee, chaired by Ajit Agarkar, met this Wednesday to announce the 15-player squad for the T20I series in the Caribbean. By naming Hardik Pandya as captain and choosing a predominantly young group, the selectors have signaled a clear intent to prioritize the next generation, leaving no room for seasoned icons like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.
The Ajit Agarkar-headed BCCI selection committee met for the first time on Wednesday and announced the 15-member squad for Team India’s T20I series against the West Indies in the Caribbean Island. The selection panel picked up a young squad which will be led by Hardik Pandya. The selected Indian T20I side shows that the selectors will continue to back young players, which means there is no place for senior star batters Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.

The roster is packed with rising stars who excelled in IPL 2023, including Tilak Verma, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Mukesh Kumar. The national side also sees the return of Axar Patel, Yuzvendra Chahal, and wicket-keeper Sanju Samson, though the decision to leave Rinku Singh out of the squad has raised several eyebrows.

Aakash Chopra suggested that Hardik Pandya's leadership role, established after the last T20 World Cup, is now a permanent arrangement, meaning he will likely guide the team into the 2024 World Cup hosted by the West Indies and USA.

Chopra further observed that the move away from senior players is now a consistent trend, noting that Rohit and Kohli haven't played since the World Cup, and KL Rahul is currently unavailable. This marks a decisive shift in team composition. India is scheduled to face the West Indies in a five-match T20I series running from August 3rd to August 13th.
