India stormed into the semifinals as the group leaders following a decisive 71-run win over Zimbabwe

India topped Group 2 after brushing aside Zimbabwe by 71 runs in a one-sided affair at the MCG. Their reward is a semi-final showdown with England on November 10 at the Adelaide Oval. Attempting to chase down 187, Zimbabwe collapsed to 115 all out in 17.2 overs. Despite some gritty contributions from Ryan Burl (35) and Sikandar Raza (34), the Indian bowlers were simply too disciplined. Ravichandran Ashwin was the standout performer with the ball, taking 3 wickets for just 22 runs.

After winning the toss and electing to bat, India stumbled early when Rohit Sharma failed to find his rhythm, departing for 15. The recovery was led by KL Rahul, whose consistent form saw him notch another half-century. Together with Virat Kohli, Rahul built a solid foundation, putting on 60 runs to steady the ship.

The partnership was broken when Sean Williams dismissed Kohli for 26, and shortly after, Raza claimed the wicket of Rahul, who had played a brisk knock of 51 from 35 deliveries. Then came the fireworks from Suryakumar Yadav; using his signature array of shots to find gaps everywhere, he smashed an unbeaten 61 off a mere 25 balls. This late-innings surge pushed India to a massive total of 186/5.

Zimbabwe's reply was disastrous from the start, with Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Arshdeep Singh claiming early wickets in the first two overs. The pressure mounted as Mohammed Shami and Hardik Pandya struck in their opening overs, leaving Zimbabwe reeling at 31/4. Although Raza and Burl tried to fight back, Ashwin triggered a total collapse by removing Burl. India's bowlers continued to rip through the lineup, securing a comprehensive victory.
