India has started off the second Test on a positive note by finishing day 1 on 276/3 at Lord’s. Indian opener KL Rahul scored a dazzling century while the other opener Rohit Sharma scored a fine 83. Indian Skipper Virat Kohli lost his wicket at the end of the day. Earlier, the match was delayed 15 minutes due to some rain.

After winning the toss, England chose to bowl. The Indian openers handled the conditions expertly, putting on 126 runs together. Notably, this was the first time since 2016 that a non-English opening duo managed to reach a 100-run partnership in a Test match played in England.

The opening pair provided a great contrast: Rohit Sharma was the aggressor, scoring quickly, while KL Rahul played a more calculated, defensive game, expertly ignoring balls outside the off stump. England's James Anderson eventually broke the partnership in the 44th over by bowling out Rohit. He then removed Pujara, who was caught at third slip by Bairstow; it was a disappointing outing for Pujara, who managed only 9 runs.

Virat Kohli and KL Rahul added 117 runs for the third wicket, with Kohli fighting for every run to reach 42. His innings ended when he edged a well-pitched delivery from Ollie Robinson to Joe Root at first slip. Meanwhile, KL Rahul delivered a masterclass in batting, recording his sixth Test century and remaining undefeated on 127 by the end of the day.
