Captain Rohit Sharma reveals Sanju Samson is being considered for the team

After a seven-month hiatus, wicket-keeper batsman Sanju Samson has been brought back into the Indian T20I squad for the home series against Sri Lanka. Although he is praised as an exceptional ball-striker, finding a consistent place in the national lineup has remained a challenge for the right-hander.

While the 27-year-old has consistently showcased his batting prowess in the IPL, he has yet to make a lasting impact for India. However, in a press briefing, Rohit Sharma lauded his talent, stating that Samson's immense potential keeps him very much in the conversation for the T20 World Cup.

Rohit advised the Kerala cricketer to better leverage his natural abilities to evolve as a batsman. He pointed out that Samson has a knack for playing massive innings that electrify the fans, specifically praising his technical execution of the cut shot and the pick-up pull. Rohit believes these attacking capabilities would make him a huge asset for the squad in Australian conditions.

Highlighting Samson's potential to change the course of a game, Rohit mentioned that the team management intends to back him and build his confidence during his outings. With KL Rahul, Virat Kohli, and Rishabh Pant unavailable, Samson is likely to anchor the middle order against Sri Lanka. The action kicks off today at 7:00 pm with the first T20I.
