The BCCI has revealed the ODI lineups for the tours of Bangladesh and New Zealand. With the T20 World Cup drawing to a close, teams are shifting their attention to the 50-over game to prepare for the next World Cup on Indian soil. Hardik Pandya and Shikhar Dhawan have been appointed captains for the T20I and ODI squads, respectively, for the New Zealand series beginning November 18.
In the absence of rested stars Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and KL Rahul, the vice-captaincy has been handed to Rishabh Pant. The team continues to rely on the likes of Shubman Gill, Ishan Kishan, Shreyas Iyer, and Sanju Samson to strengthen the lineup. Additionally, the squad sees the return of pace bowler Umran Malik and the debut call-up of Kuldip Sen.
Many anticipated Prithvi Shaw's inclusion following his explosive domestic form, where he racked up 285 runs in just seven matches of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy at a strike rate of 191.27. Despite these numbers, the selectors passed him over again. This decision sparked a wave of criticism, prompting BCCI chief selector Chetan Sharma to speak out about the young opener's status.
Sharma clarified that the selection committee wants to give the current squad members a fair opportunity to prove themselves, though he promised that the youngster would eventually be called back. He noted that they remain in close contact with Prithvi and emphasized that he isn't doing anything wrong. According to Sharma, Prithvi is performing well and will certainly find himself back in the team soon.
