During a conversation last Saturday, Rohit Sharma made it clear that he isn't a fan of last-minute roster changes. As India prepares to face Pakistan this Sunday at the Melbourne Cricket Ground to open their campaign, the captain believes his squad is already finalized. Yet, Sachin Tendulkar disagrees, suggesting that the team management and Rohit should reconsider and give Rishabh Pant a spot in the lineup.
Earlier last Saturday, India captain Rohit Sharma admitted that he does not believe in making last-minute changes in the playing XI. Rohit said that he has his playing squad ready for the T20 World Cup tournament which kicks off for the former champions on Sunday at the Melbourne Cricket Ground against arch-rivals Pakistan. But India’s batting legend Sachin Tendulkar has a last-minute suggestion for the Indian skipper and the team management on their playing XI as he directly backed Rishabh Pant’s inclusion.
India's top order appears settled with Rohit, KL Rahul, Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, and Hardik Pandya taking the lead. Given the team's recent T20I selections, Dinesh Karthik is also a safe bet for the XI. This leaves Rishabh Pant as the sole specialist left-handed option for the team, though current indications suggest he may not feature in the first match against Pakistan.
Sachin highlighted the tactical advantage of having a left-handed batsman in the mix. The 49-year-old legend explained that lefties naturally disrupt the opponent's bowling flow, forcing the fielding side to shift their positions and the bowlers to alter their lines. He noted that when a left-hander consistently rotates the strike, it creates a frustrating and difficult environment for any bowler.
Sachin also emphasized the need for the team to operate as a cohesive unit and focus on what actually delivers results. He concluded that the coaching staff must carefully analyze the opponent's strengths to decide the most effective batting order.
