The Mumbai Indians claimed the 2026 Women’s Premier League title in a suspenseful finale that went right down to the final over.

The Mumbai Indians made history as the first-ever Women’s Premier League champions, defeating the Delhi Capitals by 7 wickets in a thrilling final held on a 'super Sunday.' To secure the win at Brabourne Stadium, MI had to chase 132 runs, a feat they achieved in the final over. The victory was powered by Nat Sciver-Brunt's impressive unbeaten 60 and a steady 37 from captain Harmanpreet Kaur, despite a determined effort from the DC bowlers to hold them off until the last moment.

After winning the toss, Delhi Capitals captain Meg Lanning decided to set a target, but the strategy failed as wickets fell rapidly. Issy Wong dominated the early stages, stunning DC by dismissing Shafali Verma (11) and Alice Capsey (0) in the second over, then adding Jemimah Rodrigues (9) to her tally in the following over. While Lanning and Marizanne Kapp managed to put on 38 runs for the fourth wicket, the momentum shifted again when Amellia Kerr took Kapp's wicket for 18.

Meg Lanning was the top scorer for DC with 35 runs, though her innings ended in an unlucky run-out. As the team struggled, Shikha Pandey and Radha Yadav saved the day with a remarkable 52-run stand for the 10th wicket, lifting DC to a total of 131/9 after 20 overs. On the bowling side, both Issy Wong and Hayley Matthews claimed three wickets each.

MI's chase got off to a shaky start with Yastika Bhatia (4) and Hayley Matthews (13) falling early. However, the game turned when Sciver-Brunt and Harmanpreet Kaur forged a match-winning partnership of 72 runs, which only ended when the MI captain was run out. Amellia Kerr added a final 14 runs to seal the championship. Individual honors were also awarded: Matthews took home the Purple Cap as the top wicket-taker, while Lanning earned the Orange Cap for the most runs scored in the tournament.
