Mumbai Indians won by just one run, scoring 149/8 (Pollard 41*, Chahar 3-26) while restricting Chennai Super Kings to 148/7 (Watson 80, Bumrah 2-14).

Amidst a chaotic and strategically intense final, Lasith Malinga redeemed a poor individual performance with a stunning final over, sealing Mumbai Indians' fourth IPL title.

The game was a series of ups and downs; both teams struggled to hit their peak, the third umpire faced technical hurdles, and several fielding blunders occurred. This tension built up until the final over, where Chennai needed nine runs to win. Malinga, who had been expensive and clumsy in the field up to that point, defied his aging body to concede only seven runs. With two runs needed off the very last ball, he delivered a masterclass slower-ball to secure the victory, avoiding the safer option of a wide to force a tie.

Experience played a key role in the match, and Shane Watson nearly wrote his own legendary comeback story. Despite a previously rough patch in form, Watson was the backbone of the Super Kings' innings, scoring 80 off 59 balls and repeatedly dismantling Mumbai's bowling attack. However, his endurance faded in the final over; as Malinga began landing precise yorkers, Watson needed five runs from the last three balls but couldn't find the boundary.
