Former Indian pacer Ashish Nehra gave high praise to captain Rohit Sharma for his dominant display against Pakistan in the 2023 ICC ODI World Cup. After Pakistan struggled to put up a significant score, ending with only 191 runs, Rohit's aggressive batting secured a comfortable win for India at the Narendra Modi Stadium. He scored a rapid 86 off 63 balls, guiding the team to victory in only 30.3 overs.
Nehra suggested that Rohit would be disappointed not to reach a century, especially given his record of seven World Cup hundreds. He explained that in a low-scoring game, failing to capitalize in the first five to seven overs can make the chase difficult, but India's strong start immediately forced Pakistan onto the defensive.
Nehra mentioned that while missing the hundred might sting, this is the type of fearless batting Rohit is known for once he's settled. His dominance was so complete that Pakistan never even had a chance to fight back into the game.
Nehra also questioned Pakistan's strategy of bowling short deliveries to Rohit. While Rohit has occasionally fallen victim to the pull shot, it's rarely a weakness for him, especially on a surface like this. He concluded that when Rohit is in this kind of form, it's highly unlikely he would mistime a pull shot.
