Rohit Sharma unavailable for the deciding match against Bangladesh

Rohit Sharma, the mainstay captain of Team India, has been ruled out of the second Test against Bangladesh. Due to a lingering finger injury, the right-handed opener will miss the series decider. The injury happened during a fielding play in the second ODI against Bangladesh earlier this month, specifically affecting his thumb, which previously sidelined him for the final ODI and the first Test match.
Team India’s regular captain Rohit Sharma has been ruled out of the second Test against Bangladesh. The right-handed opener will not play the series decider as well after he failed to recover from the figure injury. Rohit picked up the injury during fielding in the second ODI against Bangladesh earlier this month. Rohit incurred an injury on his thumb after which he was ruled out of the final ODI and the opening Test match.

It's confirmed that KL Rahul will stay on as captain. Under Rahul's leadership, India aims for a complete series whitewash in the December 22 clash in Mirpur. To avoid any long-term setbacks, the BCCI and selectors are playing it safe, prioritizing Rohit's full recovery ahead of several critical home ODI and T20I series.

Reports indicate that while Rohit's batting isn't the primary issue, the medical team is concerned about his fitness while fielding. The 35-year-old is slated to return for the upcoming series against Sri Lanka starting January 3, which features three T20Is and three ODIs.

Because Rohit is unavailable, the coaching staff will start Shubman Gill as the opener for the second Test. The 23-year-old has already made a huge impact, scoring his first-ever Test century in the previous match. Given his current form, it would be nearly impossible to leave such a talented youngster out of the starting lineup.
