Mumbai Indians completely overwhelmed Royal Challengers Bangalore with a 6-wicket victory at Wankhede, thanks to a classic performance by Suryakumar Yadav.
Vintage Suryakumar Yadav’s batting effort helped Mumbai Indians (MI) to demolish Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) by 6 wickets at the Wankhede Stadium.
Showing why he is called the 360-degree player, Suryakumar Yadav tore through the bowling attack, scoring 83 off 35 balls (SR 237.14) to wrap up a 200-run chase in just 16.3 overs. He was well-supported by the young Nehal Wadhera, who remained not out on 52.
The game started well for MI as Jason Behrendorff struck early, taking out Virat Kohli for 1 and Anuj Rawat for 6 during the powerplay. RCB attempted a comeback via Faf du Plessis and Glenn Maxwell, who both dominated the MI bowlers to score half-centuries at a rapid pace.
The tide turned in the 13th over when Behrendorff used a knuckleball to trick Maxwell, who was looking lethal on 68. While Du Plessis departed for 65 and Mahipal Lomror struggled (1), Dinesh Karthik contributed 30 runs. MI's bowlers showed great resilience to limit RCB to a total of 199/6.
MI began their chase aggressively, with Ishan Kishan putting pressure on the bowlers immediately. Faf du Plessis responded by bringing in Wanindu Hasaranga, who made an instant impact by removing both Rohit Sharma (7) and Kishan (42) in a single over. However, that was the only hurdle MI faced; Suryakumar and Wadhera then forged a spectacular 140-run stand, completely demoralizing RCB and securing a thrilling win for the home fans.
