The board has yet to confirm whether the ICC T20 World Cup will be shifted to next year or beyond. For now, the ICC is still considering an October-November slot for the event, which has sparked a series of discussions among international cricket executives. During a recent video conference, Cricket Australia's Kevin Roberts voiced serious concerns about the viability of holding the tournament this year.
Previously, a discussion about the ICC T20i World Cup moving forward to next year and the year ahead is something that is yet to confirm by the board. Currently, ICC is planning to schedule the T20i World Cup this year in October-November dates, where the international cricket executives are discussing the possibilities. Especially, Kevin Roberts from the Cricket Australia had stated the difficulties to the reporters at a video call if the ICC decided to proceed with World Cup this year.
An official update on the scheduling for the coming years is due from the ICC on June 10, 2020. This update is critical for the BCCI, who are monitoring the situation closely; a postponement of the World Cup would create a strategic opening in October and November to run the Indian Premier League, taking advantage of the easing travel restrictions.
Kevin Roberts also touched upon the overwhelming schedule facing the Australian team, noting that their grounds are already packed with ODIs, Tests, and Women's matches. According to the CA chief, the ICC is attempting to juggle far too many games in a tight window. He noted that with COVID-19 slowing down, rescheduling the World Cup for early 2021 would be a better move, providing both Australia and India with the necessary preparation time.
