Tristan Stubbs and Ishant Sharma lead the way as DC triumphs over LSG

Delhi Capitals wrapped up their IPL 2024 group stage fixtures on Tuesday by beating the Lucknow Super Giants by 19 runs at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. This win keeps DC's slim mathematical hopes for a top-four finish alive. LSG, with a remaining clash against Mumbai Indians, are still in the hunt, though both sides now need specific results from other matches to qualify. Notably, this result has guaranteed the Rajasthan Royals a place in the top four.
Delhi Capitals (DC) finished the group stage of the IPL 2024 with a 19-run win over Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at Arun Jaitley Stadium on Tuesday, albeit mathematically, keeping them in contention for a top-four finish. LSG, who have one more game against the Mumbai Indians (MI), are not yet eliminated, but both teams will need other match results to go their way to finish in the top four. Meanwhile, the match result between DC and LSG confirmed Rajasthan Royals’ (RR) spot in the top four.

After crashing to 44 for 4 in pursuit of 209, LSG staged a surprising comeback to push the game to the very last over. This fightback was led by Nicholas Pooran, who smashed 61 from 27 deliveries, and Arshad Khan, who provided a crucial unbeaten 58 from the number eight spot. However, DC's rookie pacer Rasikh Salam managed to defend 20 runs in the final six balls, clinching the seventh win of the season for Delhi. Earlier in the match, Ishant Sharma dominated the opening stages, dismantling LSG's top order with three quick wickets. While Pooran and Arshad fought bravely, the lack of support from other batsmen meant LSG couldn't quite cross the finish line.

With a pitch that heavily favored batters, DC knew that scoring 200 or more was essential to secure the win. After losing the toss and batting first, they got off to a rocky start when Arshad removed the dangerous Jake Fraser-McGurk for zero. However, the momentum shifted as Abishek Porel and Shai Hope put on a commanding 92-run partnership for the second wicket. Hope contributed 38 before exiting, while Porel impressed with a solid 58. Captain Rishabh Pant added a useful 33, but the real game-changer was Tristan Stubbs, whose explosive 57 off just 25 balls pushed DC to a formidable 208 for 4.
