With the IPL put on hold, the UAE is increasingly likely to host the T20 World Cup

India's bid to host the 2021 Men's T20 World Cup has been seriously compromised by the IPL's postponement. The consequences of this delay remain uncertain, particularly as several people involved in the league have recently tested positive for the virus.
Since the postponement of the IPL hosting the 2021 men’s T20 World Cup, in India has taken a heavy hit. Any fallout from the postponing of IPL 2021 is yet to be settled after several members from the event tested positive in recent days.

Reports indicate that the ICC is still assessing the conditions in India. Although the UAE was initially intended as a fallback, it is now a genuine contender to host the global competition. The tournament is set to involve 16 teams, with the original schedule placing the start in late October and the championship match on November 14 in India.

The BCCI had previously proposed a list of nine Indian stadiums to the ICC for the tournament. An expert team from the ICC, covering security and biosafety, was meant to arrive on April 26 to evaluate these sites, but the trip was called off because of travel bans between India and the UAE.

Unlike previous years where IPL teams played home and away, the BCCI implemented a 'caravan' model for 2021, splitting the tournament into four legs across two simultaneous venues. This new approach was intended by the BCCI to serve as a trial run for the T20 World Cup.
