Kolkata Chosen as Venue for the VIVO IPL 2026 Auction

Hugh Edmeades will be officiating the auction. The talent pool consists of 731 Indian athletes and 258 international players, with a significant number of registrants hailing from Australia, Sri Lanka, South Africa, and the West Indies.

Eight franchises are competing for 73 available positions, with about 29 of those reserved for overseas players. Additionally, the financial support for teams has been bumped up from 83 to 85 crores for the VIVO IPL 2020 season.

In terms of budget, Kings XI Punjab is the wealthiest contender with 42.70 crore, followed by KKR with 35.65 crore and RCB with 27.90 crore.

A total of 71 players have been released by the eight teams and are now back in the auction pool. RCB made the biggest cuts by releasing 12 players, while Rajasthan Royals and KKR released 11 players each.

The 2019 champions, Mumbai Indians, cleared 10 players from their roster to open up seven spots for the new season. Similarly, the Chennai Super Kings, who finished as runners-up, released 7 players and are looking to fill five vacancies.

Furthermore, the Delhi Capitals have let go of 9 players, and Sunrisers Hyderabad released 5. High-profile names like Dale Steyn and Glenn Maxwell are among the top tier, with their base prices starting at 2 crores.
