Mohammad Kaif, a veteran of Indian cricket, suggests that having Virat Kohli back at the helm will greatly boost the team's morale for the upcoming Test series against the West Indies. That said, he identifies spinners Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja as the biggest threats to the visiting side. This series is particularly noteworthy as it's the first time the two will be fielding together since the England series. Kaif emphasized that the West Indies face an uphill battle given India's strength at home and Kohli's leadership, though he believes the spin pair will be more decisive than Kuldeep Yadav. India's strategic squad changes further solidify their status as favorites. On the other hand, West Indies coach Stuart Law mentioned that the heat and humidity—expected to reach 40 degrees with 30% humidity in Saurashtra—will challenge his team's resilience. Additionally, Law confirmed that Kemar Roach will miss the first Test due to a family bereavement. Historically, the West Indies have struggled in India, with their last victory in Mohali dating back to 1994 and their last overall win against India in 2002 in Kingston. In a historic move, Prithvi Shaw is set to debut as the youngest specialist batsman for India, echoing Sachin Tendulkar's debut in Karachi back in 1989.
Both of them are going to start their first match playing together for the first time, they hadn’t play together during the last series against England. Kais said ““It is going to be very difficult for West Indies because India are a very strong team at home. Virat Kohli is also back to lead them. But in my opinion, the biggest match-winners in the series will be Ashwin and Jadeja. Kuldeep Yadav is also there but I think Ashwin and Jadeja will be the biggest threat for the visiting team.”
The Indian squad again was changed for the West Indies series.
India look to be the favorites for the Tests, coming into this series with a strong statement with their selection.
Though the head coach Stuart Law of West Indies said that the weather being different from back home it would test their absorption levels. Temperature at Saurashtra is expected to be around 40 degrees with humidity of around 30 percent.
Law also confirmed that Kemar Roach would be missing out the first Test due to a bereavement in his family.
1994 was the last time that the West Indies had won a Test match was in Mohali and 2002 was also the last time they had beaten India anywhere in Kingston.
The youngest specialist batsman Prithvi Shaw would be making his Test debut for India Sachin Tendulkar was the last specialist youngster to make his debut in Karachi 1989.
