India women’s team outclassed UAE by 122 runs in their second encounter of the inaugural U19 World Cup at Benoni, South Africa. India’s dominating win has helped them to cement their place at the top of Group D with 4 points and an excellent net run rate of +4.405. Chasing a huge target of 220, UAE never looked in the chase. Indian bowlers produced a disciplined attack by bowling correct lines and lengths, which helped them to register a remarkable win.
After choosing to bat first, captain Shafali Verma and opener Shweta Sehrawat got India off to a flying start, racking up 111 runs for the first wicket in just 8.3 overs.
Shafali was in destructive form right from the first ball, using a high-risk, high-reward attacking style to score quickly. She completely unsettled the UAE bowlers, smashing 12 fours and four sixes in a whirlwind innings of 78.
While Shafali attacked, Sehrawat played the role of the stabilizer perfectly. The right-hander remained unbeaten on 72, securing her second straight fifty with a display of total control. A quick 49 from Richa Ghosh further boosted the total, helping India reach 219/3 by the end of their 20 overs.
The UAE tried to fight back early on, with opener Theertha Sathish hitting four boundaries in the first four overs. However, the momentum shifted instantly when Shabnam took her wicket on the fifth ball. Lavanya Keny struggled to find the boundary, scoring a slow 24 from 54 deliveries. With wickets falling regularly and the run rate stagnating, the UAE never really looked like a threat, eventually finishing their 20 overs at 97/5.
