Syed, one of the most respected wicketkeepers in India's history, thinks the experienced Saha is more deserving of a spot in the second Test against the West Indies than Pant, who still needs to refine his game.
One of India’s greatest wicketkeeper, Syed , feels that Bengal veteran Saha deserves to play the second Test against the West Indies instead of Pant, who still has a “lot to learn”.
Pant's early career has been marked by inconsistency, with his questionable decision-making while batting during the World Cup and the West Indies tour leaving much to be desired.
With 88 Tests under his belt and a 1983 World Cup medal, Kirmani argues that Saha deserves an equal opportunity despite his previous injury struggles. He reminds everyone that wicketkeeping is a highly demanding skill that cannot be mastered simply by wearing the gear.
Having previously served as the chairman of selectors, Kirmani is pushing for Saha to feature in the upcoming Test in Jamaica.
Kirmani raised a valid point: Saha suffered from injuries, but he needs a fair chance to prove himself. He questioned the purpose of keeping him in the team if he's never given the opportunity to play.
Kirmani believes selection should be based purely on merit. He noted that Saha broke into the national team because of his steady domestic form, but when he was sidelined, it paved the way for others like Pant and Karthik to step in.
He urged people to stop speculating about Saha's retirement and let him play; there will be a natural time for him to step away later.
At the same time, Kirmani suggests that Dhoni should focus on mentoring the younger players before he decides to retire.
