In a standout World Cup performance, Shakib Al Hasan anchored Bangladesh to their highest-ever successful ODI chase with an unbeaten 124 and a two-wicket haul. The innings was packed with achievements: he crossed the 6,000-run mark in ODIs, became Bangladesh's top scorer in a single World Cup, and joined Mahmudullah as one of only two Bangladeshis to hit two centuries in one tournament. His partnership with Liton Das was instrumental in chasing down the West Indies' 321 with more than eight overs to spare.

The duo put on a massive 189-run stand for the fourth wicket, gradually increasing the pressure until the 38th over. In a stunning display, Liton hit three back-foot sixes against Gabriel, making it the most expensive over of the World Cup with 24 runs. This surge took Bangladesh to 294/3, leaving them in complete control for the remainder of the match.

Shai Hope tried to keep the West Indies in the game, but his slow scoring rate (just over 80) limited the impact of his 96 off 121 balls, eventually falling to Mustafizur. The West Indies' late-game struggle was evident as they only added 61 runs in the final eight overs, leading Jason Holder to conclude they were short by about 40-50 runs. Bangladesh won by seven wickets, finishing at 322/3 (Shakib 124*, Liton 94*, Tamim 48) against West Indies' 321/8 (Hope 96, Lewis 70, Hetmyer 50; Mustafizur 3-59, Saifuddin 3-72).
