Speaking to the media before Manchester United's encounter with Liverpool, Jose Mourinho highlighted Mohamed Salah as the engine driving Liverpool's success. As the Sunday showdown approached, Mourinho took a moment to admire Salah's growth. Having coached him at Chelsea, Mourinho recalled a time when Salah was far from a star, managing only nineteen games before being sent on loan to Fiorentina and Roma. However, his resurgence at Roma paved the way for a 34-million-pound move to Liverpool, where he transformed into a goal-scoring machine, winning the Golden Boot and scoring 44 goals in a single campaign. Mourinho noted that the player he knows now is unrecognizable from the one he coached years ago. He warned his United players that neutralizing Salah is non-negotiable, given his game-changing impact. Mourinho described Salah's evolution from a raw, inexperienced talent to one of the world's elite. He noted that while Salah was always fast, he has now paired that speed with immense strength and peak physical fitness. He recalled how Salah, arriving from a small Swiss club, lacked the mental toughness for the big stage, struggling in pressure-cooker environments like White Hart Lane or the Etihad. Now, Mourinho believes Salah enters any stadium—be it in Barcelona or Madrid—with total confidence and a fearless attitude. While acknowledging Liverpool's overall squad depth, Mourinho insisted that Salah is their ultimate weapon and the one player they must be most wary of.
