For most of the match, it looked like a dull affair, but Ross Barkley snatched the victory with a brilliant goal in the dying moments. This win puts Villa in second place with 12 points, trailing leaders Everton (13 points) by only one, with the advantage of having a game in hand. Liverpool remains in third with 10 points, while Leicester sits in fourth with nine after suffering back-to-back home losses. The decisive goal came from Barkley, who fired a low shot from 25 meters that bounced awkwardly in front of Kasper Schmeichel before hitting the back of the net. On loan from Chelsea this season, Barkley's contribution was vital. The first half was relatively quiet, though Villa's Trezeguet missed a target after a slick passing sequence, and Emiliano Martinez made a key save to stop Timothy Castagne. The tension rose in the second half when Ezri Konsa narrowly missed a header in the 51st minute. Barkley snatched the win from the foxes with a low shot from 25 meters away from the goal post. The ball bounced in front of Kasper Schmeichel and went past him into the goal giving Villa their fourth win of the season. Barkley joined Villa this season on a loan from Chelsea.
Each team had a chance of scoring a goal in the boring first half as Trezeguet fired the ball wide following a smooth relay of passes from Villa. After which Villa’s goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez defended the ball from Leicester right back Timothy Castagne. In the second half, Villa came close to scoring in the 51st minute when their team’s central defender Ezri Konsa headed the ball few inches wide.
As everyone believed the game to end on a draw for both sides Barkley gave his team the fourth win of the season. This is the first time since 1930 that Aston Villa has started their season with straight four wins.
Barkley said after the match that it was an important win for the team. He also dedicated the goal to his physio who did a really good job of getting him right since Barkley was only fit 50-50 during the week. Ross Barkley felt that they started the game a bit slow, but was able to get some momentum during the second half. The way Villa played Barkley thought they deserved the win. Speaking of his goal Barkley said he saw the space for a goal wide opened up and so he thought of taking a chance which then paid.
