Kerala Blasters FC has brightened their semifinal chances with a 3-1 win over Mumbai City FC in a rescheduled Indian Super League match at Tilak Maidan. Kerala Blasters now need just a point to qualify for the semis after securing a much-needed victory. Alvaro Vazquez brace powered Kerala Blasters to earn full three points against Mumbai City. The Spanish striker Vazquez scored a brace either side of halftime while Sahal Abdul Samad opened the floodgates for Kerala. Diego Maurico scored a consolation goal for Mumbai.

Following the result, Kerala Blasters climb to fourth place with 33 points, heading into a final league match against FC Goa. Mumbai City remains in fifth with 31 points and will close out their campaign against Hyderabad FC. Kerala's objective is clear: win against Goa to advance. For Mumbai, the math is harder; they need a victory over Hyderabad and a Kerala defeat to keep their playoff dreams alive.

The match opened with both teams playing cautiously, each waiting for the right moment to strike. After a period of back-and-forth play, Sahal Abdul Samad broke the tie with a moment of brilliance. He capitalized on a poor header from Cassio Gabriel, stealing possession and weaving past the Brazilian defender. With a quick turn and a sharp move that left the Mumbai defense stranded, Samad fired a low shot into the bottom left corner. The keeper, Mohamad Nawaz, was left helpless, partially obscured by his own teammates during the scramble. This marked Samad's fifth goal of the current ISL season.

Mumbai attempted to respond quickly, but their pressure failed to yield results; instead, Kerala extended their lead. The Blasters were awarded a penalty after Mourtada Fall tripped Vazquez in the box. The Spanish striker showed great composure, pausing momentarily to deceive the keeper before slotting the ball into the right corner, sending Nawaz the wrong way.

Almost immediately after the restart in the second half, Kerala nearly added a third when Luna unleashed a powerful strike from distance, though Nawaz managed a superb save. However, Mumbai's defense soon suffered a costly lapse, gifting the Blasters another opportunity.

A misplaced back-pass from Mourtada Fall, combined with a clumsy touch from Nawaz, handed the ball directly to Vazquez. The Spaniard didn't miss, scoring what felt like the knockout blow. Mumbai did manage to reduce the deficit when Mauricio was fouled by Ruivah Hormipam inside the area; Mauricio converted the resulting penalty into the bottom right corner to make it 3-1. From there, Kerala maintained their control to secure a hard-fought and impressive win.
