Marking their return to international competition since the AFC Asian Cup, India is set to compete in the King's Cup this June. This four-team event brings together India, the hosts Thailand, Vietnam, and Curacao. For new manager Igor Stimac, the tournament serves as a vital opportunity to evaluate his roster and gauge the team's current capabilities.

Following Stephen Constantine's departure after the Asian Cup, the Croatian tactician took over the reins in May. While his appointment sparked some skepticism among Indian fans—largely due to a perceived lack of success and a tactical approach similar to his predecessor—Stimac brings a high level of prestige and experience from his two years leading the Croatian national side.

India's journey begins on June 5th at Buriram's Chang Arena, where they face Curacao. The winner of this opening clash will advance to the final on June 8th to meet the victor of the Thailand versus Vietnam match. Although India ranks as the third-strongest seed based on FIFA standings, the opening game against Curacao promises to be a tough battle. Success will depend entirely on whether Stimac can inspire his squad to perform at their peak.

The team's success hinges heavily on their attacking efficiency, with the spotlight firmly on Sunil Chhetri. Coming off a phenomenal club season where he captained Bengaluru FC to their maiden ISL title, the 35-year-old's clinical finishing and veteran leadership are indispensable. Defensively, the biggest question mark is who will fill the void left by Anas Edathodika. Since the defender retired in January, all eyes are on Stimac to see who he trusts to step into that critical role.

Because Stimac has had very little time to implement his vision, goals for this tournament are modest. That said, the team can draw motivation from their convincing win over Thailand during January's Asian Cup. If they manage to navigate the semi-final, a high-stakes rematch with the host nation in the final is a distinct possibility.
