Players in La Liga are considering a strike in response to plans to play games in the United States

David Aganzo, president of the Spanish Footballers’ Association, argued that the league had a responsibility to talk to the players before agreeing to play matches in the US.

Aganzo stated that La Liga's decision to move forward without any consultation is a sign of disrespect. He emphasized that the issue goes beyond the sport, touching on player wellness and the strain of travel, and argued that it's unfair for a club to give up a home match for a US-based game. He expressed frustration over a long-term, 15-year deal being made behind the players' backs, adding that they are fed up with being undervalued.

While Aganzo hopes to avoid a strike, he admitted it remains a possibility as a final measure. He noted a divide in opinion among the clubs, but stressed that his role is to fight for the players. The plan is to bring these concerns to the union; however, if the union fails to respond promptly, the association will have to resolve the matter. While they are trying to find a peaceful solution, they are ready to strike if it becomes the only option.

La Liga is striving to challenge the Premier League's dominance in the highly profitable North American broadcasting market. Currently, the English league enjoys much greater visibility in the US, thanks in part to a six-year, $1 billion television contract with NBC.
