Pierre Gasly secures multi-year contract extension with Alpine

Pierre Gasly has officially extended his stay with the Alpine F1 team through a new multi-year agreement. Alpine confirmed that this deal ensures the Frenchman stays behind the wheel at least through the 2025 season, though they kept other details private. Currently in his second stint with the team, the 28-year-old has shown resilience; following a difficult opening phase of the season, he has secured points in the three most recent outings ahead of the upcoming Austrian Grand Prix. In the previous season, Gasly placed 11th overall, with his standout performance being a podium finish (third place) at the Netherlands Grand Prix.
Pierre Gasly, a Formula One driver, has signed a multi-year contract extension with the Alpine team. Alpine said in a statement that the agreement will keep Pierre through the 2025 season and beyond. No more information was provided. The 28-year-old Frenchman is in his second season at Alpine. Following a difficult start to the season, he has gained points in the last three races heading into this weekend’s Austrian Grand Prix. He finished 11th in the drivers’ standings last season, with a best finish of third place at the Netherlands Grand Prix.

Gasly emphasized that his goal has always been to build something lasting with Alpine. While admitting that this season has been a struggle on the track, he insisted that he still believes in the project and is committed to staying. He mentioned that he is pleased with the team's new direction and the hard work being put in to improve their performance.

As Gasly stays, Esteban Ocon will be moving on from Alpine at the conclusion of the season. The French-led team indicated that they will announce who will take Ocon's place soon. It's no secret that Ocon and Gasly have a volatile relationship, which was on full display during their collision near the tunnel at the Monaco Grand Prix last month. Ocon accepted responsibility for the crash, resulting in a five-place penalty for the next race. Adding to the team's turmoil, Alpine saw two of its top executives responsible for car development resign back in March after a disastrous showing at the season-opening race in Bahrain.

There are reports that Alpine is eyeing Carlos Sainz as the ideal replacement for Ocon. Sainz finds himself without a seat at Ferrari because seven-time champion Lewis Hamilton is moving from Mercedes to the Italian team next year. With Ferrari securing both Hamilton and Charles Leclerc, Sainz is widely considered the most coveted free agent on the 2025 market.

For his part, Sainz has expressed a desire to settle his future quickly. He mentioned that he doesn't want to let the decision linger any longer, as the uncertainty has become a distraction in recent weeks. While he hasn't made a final call yet, the Spanish driver confirmed he is still brainstorming and discussing his options with his management team.

Throughout his career, Gasly has started 140 races and earned four podiums. His crowning achievement remains his victory at the 2020 Italian Grand Prix, where he famously defended his lead against Carlos Sainz (then with McLaren) in the closing laps.
