Jaylen Brown admits he feels personally responsible for the loss after his team dropped Game 7 to the Miami Heat

Boston's journey to the NBA Finals came to an abrupt and humbling end with an 84-103 loss to the Miami Heat in the final game of the Eastern Conference Final.
Boston Celtics failed to reach the NBA Finals as they experienced a humiliating 103-84 defeat against the Miami Heat in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Final.

The Celtics struggled throughout the matchup, plagued by an inability to hit shots from behind the arc. In contrast, the Miami Heat capitalized on the moment, led by the dominant play of Jimmy Butler and Caleb Vincent, leaving the TD Garden crowd in stunned silence. Miami now advances to the NBA Finals to battle the Denver Nuggets, with the series tipping off on Thursday, June 2.

Historically, a 3-0 lead in an NBA series has been an insurmountable mountain, with a 150-0 record against the trailing team. Miami has now extended that legendary streak to 151-0 by overcoming the Celtics. It's worth noting that only three teams had ever been resilient enough to force a Game 7 after trailing 0-3, a feat not seen since the first round of the 2003 Western Conference. Both teams technically made history, but Miami is the one celebrating the victory.

The 2023 Celtics have now joined a small, unfortunate group—including the 1951 Knicks, 1994 Nuggets, and 2003 Trail Blazers—who managed to claw back from a 3-0 deficit to reach Game 7, only to lose the series in the end.

Jaylen Brown took ownership of the defeat, confessing that he blames himself for the outcome of Game 7. Although Boston showed great heart by tying the Eastern Conference Finals at three games apiece, they couldn't close it out. Brown noted that he failed to step up and deliver when the team needed him most, particularly after Jayson Tatum suffered an early ankle injury.

Brown explained that the pressure shifted to him the moment Tatum's ankle began to swell during the opening play, limiting Tatum's mobility. Feeling the weight of the game on his shoulders, Brown tried to take charge but struggled to execute. He found himself repeatedly driving into a congested defense and was forced to give up the ball at the last second, which explains why he struggled with eight turnovers while his teammates remained far more composed.

The 26-year-old had a rough night statistically, converting only 8 of his 23 field goal attempts. He ended the game with 19 points, eight rebounds, and five assists, but his dismal 1-for-9 shooting from beyond the arc confirmed that it was indeed a nightmare performance.
