The 2023 Madrid Open also known as the Mutua Madrid Open for Sponsorship reasons is a joint men’s and women’s tennis tournament held in Madrid. The clay-court ATP Tour Masters 1000 event is scheduled to be held from April 24 to May 7. Top-class men’s and women’s players from all over the world will compete in the tournament to clinch the title in their respective categories. The main draw matches of the Madrid Open 2023 will get underway on Wednesday, April 26.

Fans can expect plenty of drama from the WTA draw in Madrid. Emma Raducanu, the British star, will begin her campaign against a qualifying player. The 20-year-old's road to the third round is daunting, however, because she might run into world number one Iga Swiatek in the second round. Swiatek is coming off a win in Stuttgart and hasn't lost to Raducanu in their two previous meetings.

As the top seed in Madrid, Swiatek previously beat the 2021 US Open champion in the Indian Wells Round of 16 this past March. The 21-year-old Polish star has limited experience in this specific tournament, having lost to Australia's Ashleigh Barty in the Round of 16 back in 2021. She was unable to participate in last year's competition due to a shoulder injury.

Should Raducanu maintain her composure and outplay fellow Grand Slam winner Swiatek, she would move on to a quarterfinal matchup against the current Wimbledon champion, Elena Rybakina. Meanwhile, Barbora Krejcikova, who won the French Open in 2021, is also in this section of the draw and could potentially face the seventh-seeded Rybakina in the Round of 16.

On the opposite side of the bracket is world number two Aryna Sabalenka, who recently lost the Stuttgart Open final to Swiatek. The current Australian Open champion will face either Lauren Davis or Sorana Cirstea in her second-round match. While Cirstea managed a surprising victory over Sabalenka in the Miami quarterfinals last month, she first needs to get past the veteran American, Davis.

Coco Gauff is another player to watch; the American teen has a reputation for upsetting the top seeds. Gauff's Madrid run begins against whoever wins the match between Shelby Rogers and Kaia Kanepi. Additionally, last year's champion Ons Jabeur is looking to defend her title, though she's coming off a minor injury scare. The Tunisian player starts her tournament against either Anna Bondar or Ana Bogdan.
