have fielded a full-strength team, with Ding Liren, the current world champion, on
the top board. The Chinese will start as the third seed in the tournament.
Both the women’s and open sections will have an 11-round format, with two
match points awarded to the winning teams for each victory. The game points will
be used if there is a tiebreaker at the end of the event. There are 191 teams in the
open division and 180 in the women’s division anticipated to compete; the final
participation total will be released after all the teams have arrived.
This is certainly the strongest team India has ever sent to an Olympiad. They have
a pretty decent chance of winning the gold. Although this is the same team that
India sent to the 2023 Asian Games (where they won silver), I think everyone has
certainly become stronger in the last year, Srinath Narayanan, the captain of the
Indian team, told reporters.
