The 21-year-old proved to be the season's dominant force by winning eight titles in total.
Iga Swiatek has been awarded the honor of WTA player of the year for the first time after rising to No. 1 in the rankings in April. Swiatek continued her run as the world no.1 player for the rest of the season by clinching two Grand Slam titles. The Polish star player was unbelievably consistent and conquered the top spot of the rankings after Australia’s Ash Barty announced her retirement surprisingly. The 21-year-old young player seemed to be the dominant force as she won eight titles all across a season.
Since entering the WTA scene in 2020, Swiatek has become a powerhouse, leading the tour with 67 wins and winning six trophies in a row. She also maintained a massive 37-match winning streak between February and July, marking the most dominant period for any female player in a quarter-century.
In June, Swiatek captured her second major title at the French Open, followed by a victory at the U.S. Open in September. This achievement made her the first woman since 2016's Angelique Kerber to win two Grand Slams in one calendar year.
The WTA Awards are determined by a vote from a select group of global tennis media professionals, who also name the top doubles team, the most improved player, the best newcomer, and the comeback player of the year.

China's Zheng Qinwen was recognized as the newcomer of the year, with the 20-year-old's strong performance propelling her into the world's top 25. Meanwhile, Germany's Tatjana Maria was named the comeback player of 2022 for her impressive return to professional tennis after maternity leave, highlighted by a strong showing at Wimbledon.
David Witt earned the title of WTA Coach of the Year for his work with American Jessica Pegula, who reached the quarterfinals in three different Grand Slams.
