The path to the postseason has become incredibly difficult for the Patriots.

The Patriots fell to a 4-6 record after losing 27-20 to the Houston Texans this past Sunday. This result means they are dangerously close to missing the playoffs for the first time in over a decade.

Post-game, James White noted that the team must find a way to shift their momentum. While a couple of consecutive wins had briefly reignited hopes for a playoff run after a poor 2-5 opening, the situation has turned bleak again.

Since 2001, the New England Patriots have built a dynasty with six Super Bowl championships, and they are currently struggling to live up to that storied history. In the two decades that Bill Belichick has led the team, they have only failed to make the playoffs on two other occasions.

A worrying moment occurred during the match when Rex Burkhead suffered a knee-to-helmet collision and had to be stretchered off. Coach Belichick confirmed the injury involved the knee and stated that they are awaiting a full medical report to determine the severity.

James White expressed his concern, mentioning how scary it is to see a player lying still on the field. He highlighted how essential Burkhead has been to the team's success and shared his hopes for a speedy and full recovery.

Burkhead is known for his versatility and is currently having a standout season with 466 total yards and six touchdowns. He is perhaps best remembered for scoring the decisive touchdown in the 2019 AFC championship game against Kansas City.

However, the most significant void in the Patriots' lineup remains the absence of Tom Brady. His current team, the Buccaneers, boasts a strong 7-3 record as they prepare to face the Los Angeles Rams. Meanwhile, Cam Newton put up a fighting effort on Sunday with 365 passing yards and a touchdown, though he committed a costly error by flipping the ball away to avoid a sack on a critical 4th-and-4 play.

Newton later explained that while he tried to capitalize on his opportunities, he credited the Houston defense for their strong play. He also remarked that a team's current performance isn't always a reflection of their past records.

With only six games remaining, the Patriots have already racked up as many losses as they did in any single season since 2002. Their upcoming schedule includes matchups against the Cardinals, Chargers, and Rams, before closing out the year with three consecutive games against their AFC East rivals.
