For more than two decades, Raymond Floyd held the exclusive record of five PNC Championship wins. However, the landscape shifted this Sunday in Orlando. Bernhard Langer and his son Jason delivered a masterclass at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club, essentially running away with the title. Their final round was nothing short of legendary, opening with seven straight birdies to shoot a 13-under 59. They finished the tournament at 25 under par, walking away with both the championship trophy and a $200,000 payout.
Raymond Floyd was the only five-time winner of the annual PNC Championship for more than two decades. But everything changed on Sunday. After a scorching day on the putting green, Bernhard Langer and his son, Jason, ran away with the 2023 family hit-and-giggle at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club in Orlando. The father-son team birdied their opening seven holes of the day and played a remarkable 13-under 59 in the final round on Sunday to win the trophy at 25 under. Team Langer earned $200,000 after winning the title.
David and Brady Duval put up a strong fight, securing second place with a score of 23 under. They were followed by the defending champions, Vijay and Qass Singh, who took third at 22 under. Tiger Woods and his son Charlie managed a T-5 finish at 19 under, while 2020 champions Mike and Justin Thomas finished T-13 at 14 under.
Langer has now equaled Raymond Floyd as one of the only players to win the event five times. To put that in perspective, Larry Nelson has three wins and Davis Love III has two. Langer's path to five titles involved different partners: he won in 2005 and 2006 alongside Stefan, and then secured victories in 2014, 2019, and 2023 with Jason. He also competed with his daughter, Christina, during the 2013 and 2016 editions.
Winning is great, but Langer emphasized that simply being invited is an honor comparable to the Olympics. He noted that with only 20 spots available and a long waiting list of hopefuls, the invitation itself is the real prize. He expressed deep gratitude for the opportunity to play with all four of his children over the years, creating memories that transcend the scorecards.
Jason Langer described the experience as an absolute joy, noting that his busy schedule rarely allows for this much quality time with his parents and family. For him, combining a high-level competition on a stunning course with family bonding was the highlight. Brady Duval echoed this sentiment, calling it the best week of the year and the one invitation every golfer hopes for. While he was thrilled to be part of the event, Brady admitted that a few better shots on key holes could have put them in a position to take the win.
This is by far the best week of the year, this is the week that you’re just hoping for that invite every single year, said Brady. I’m very thankful to have the invite and I’m thankful for everybody here. It was an absolute blast out there. If we got it a little closer on a few holes and gave ourselves a couple of better chances, we would have had a pretty good chance at winning this year, Brady expressed.
