Billy Joe Saunders has indicated he plans to make a comeback after a recent fight left him with a fractured eye socket.

After being stopped by pound-for-pound star Saul Alvarez on Saturday, Billy Joe Saunders underwent surgery the following day. He has since reported that the procedure was a success and expressed his determination to return to the ring.

The fight came to an end in Dallas on Saturday night when Saunders' coaches conceded after the eighth round, realizing the extent of the damage caused by a powerful uppercut from Alvarez.

Saunders was hospitalized Saturday night and operated on Sunday to repair several fractures around his right eye socket.

Given the gravity of the injury and the long recovery time expected, there was speculation that the 31-year-old fighter might consider retirement.

However, Saunders used Facebook to express his gratitude for the support he received. He confirmed that the surgery to fix his broken cheekbone and eye socket was successful and made it clear that he intends to fight again.

In a high-stakes world title unification bout, a crushing uppercut from Saul Alvarez left Billy Joe Saunders devastated and unable to stand after eight rounds. Just as the British fighter appeared to be adjusting to the pace, the Mexican champion landed a shot that caused immediate, severe swelling over Saunders' right eye, forcing his trainer to stop the fight since he could no longer see.

Following the victory, Alvarez admitted he knew immediately that the final punch had broken Saunders' cheek, a suspicion he shared with his trainer, Eddie Reynoso, while back in their corner.

Almost immediately after landing the precise strike, Alvarez celebrated in front of the 73,126 fans, making it clear that he had managed to break a fighter known for his incredible toughness.
