Following a ruling by the Bangladesh Cricket Board's disciplinary committee, Sabbir Rahman has been banned for six months. This follows a pattern of misconduct, as he was previously suspended for six months for illegally bringing a woman into a private hotel room. He is now facing a new ban even before the first one had expired.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board found itself in a difficult position due to the public scandals surrounding players Sabbir Rahman and Mosaddek Hossain. In response, the BCB appointed a disciplinary committee to look into their conduct. The committee has now finished its investigation and issued a penalty for Rahman, citing two specific charges, one of which involves the harassment of Sania Mirza.
Regarding Mosaddek Hossain, the committee has not yet made a ruling. This is primarily because his wife has filed a formal complaint alleging that he pressured her for a dowry of 10 lakh rupees. Since the police are still investigating these claims, the disciplinary committee is waiting for the legal process to unfold.
BCB Director Ismail Haider stated that the disciplinary committee recommended a six-month ban due to the evidence against Sabbir Rahman, which has now been enacted. While a previous ban had barred him from international play, he might have remained eligible for domestic cricket. Rahman attempted to defend himself regarding certain Facebook posts, claiming his account had been hacked; however, officials noted that verifying such technical claims is often impossible. Haider also mentioned that Rahman has a history of aggression, including a previous attack on a fan, and warned that any further misconduct could lead to a much longer, more severe suspension.
