Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav are back in the Test side to face England

The BCCI has released the names of the players selected for the first two Test matches against England. For the most part, the 16-man squad aligns with what analysts expected, with the exception of one spot. That slot went to the young, uncapped Dhruv Jurel. The selectors opted for the 22-year-old because he offers a reliable middle-order bat and the added advantage of being a keeper. This choice implies that Ishan Kishan remains away from the squad.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the Indian squad for the first two Test matches against England. The majority of the 16-man selection was on the predicted lines, except for one slot, that of an additional batter, which went to uncapped young player Dhruv Jurel. The selectors selected the 22-year-old Jurel, who has batting credentials in the middle order and the extra benefit of being a wicketkeeper. However, Jurel’s presence in the squad meant that Ishan Kishan might still be on a break.

The action starts in Hyderabad on Thursday, January 25, for the first of five Tests, moving to Vizag on Friday, February 2, for the second. The bowling lineup has seen some strategic adjustments. Axar Patel, who was a nightmare for England's batting lineup in 2021, and Kuldeep Yadav have returned to the squad. After being left out for the South Africa series, their return is a tailored move to exploit Indian playing conditions.

Despite the advantage of playing at home, candidates like Abhimanyu Easwaran and Sarfaraz Khan weren't selected this time around. Easwaran's absence is a tough blow. Beyond him, Shardul Thakur was left out, as was Prasidh Krishna, who recently debuted during the series in South Africa.

Both fast bowlers struggled to make an impact against the Proteas, while Avesh Khan managed to hold onto his spot. Meanwhile, veteran pacer Mohammed Shami is still out of action as he recovers from injury. India's main goal is to dominate England and secure a series win to climb higher in the World Test Championship standings.
