BCCI President confirms that TNPL franchises are not suspended

According to the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA), no franchises have been banned. That said, the association did strip two co-owners of their positions following a recommendation from an internal inquiry panel. The BCCI has been notified of these specific developments.

While BCCI President Sourav Ganguly had earlier mentioned that two TNPL teams were suspended over corruption scandals this season, TNCA Secretary RS Ramasaamy has denied this, asserting that no franchises have been suspended or banned.

Following the guidance of an internal probe team—consisting of a retired police commissioner from Chennai, a senior legal advisor, and an ex-India spinner—the TNCA ordered the Patriots to restructure their ownership by removing two partners. This move followed background checks that uncovered questionable ties between the co-owners and corrupt elements.

A TNCA official confirmed that the Tuti Patriots were required to change their ownership structure. Out of the three primary stakeholders, two were removed, giving the original owner full control of the franchise. This update has been shared with the BCCI President and the Anti-Corruption Unit.

Internal sources indicate that Selvakumar, the primary owner of the TUTI Patriots, now holds total control over the team following the removal of the two co-owners. Meanwhile, during the BCCI's Annual General Meeting in Mumbai, President Ganguly raised concerns about corruption in T20 leagues run by various state associations. He noted that because of betting and match-fixing issues, two franchises each in the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) and Karnataka Premier League (KNPL) had been suspended.

Reports suggest that bookies and match-fixers had gained influence over a TNPL franchise through illicit deals with the owner, managing the team to maximize profits from betting. However, Ajit Singh, head of the BCCI’s Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU), clarified that the players, coaches, and officials were not involved in the wrongdoing. In fact, these team members were the ones who reported the suspicious activity, and the ACU is now working to identify the perpetrators.
