COVID-19 Crisis: Mark Taylor suggests that after the CA staff, Australian players are likely the next in line for pay cuts

As the coronavirus pandemic took hold, governments worldwide struggled financially to provide essential support during the fight against the disease. While private citizens contributed resources and money to the cause, sports governing bodies began facing severe budgetary crises, forcing them to reduce wages and restructure payments to survive.

Mark Taylor, drawing on his experience as a former Australian player, Nine Network commentator, and Cricket Australia board member, commented on the news released in late April 2020. To ensure the organization could cover its expenses through August, Cricket Australia cut 80% of its workforce, while the remaining staff saw their pay slashed to 20% until the end of June. Taylor expects that the players will soon be asked to make similar financial sacrifices.

According to Mark Taylor, Cricket Australia and the Australian Cricket Association need to collaborate on a recovery plan, as the organization's finances have been devastated by the pandemic. He mentioned that if things improve in the next six months, participating in the 2020 T20 World Cup and Test series against India could provide a much-needed financial boost. Meanwhile, Australia's health statistics stood at 6,618 infections, 4,230 recoveries, and 71 fatalities.
